What does the backlink checker verify?
For every page you enter it checks that a link to your site exists, which anchor text it uses, its rel attribute (dofollow, nofollow, sponsored or ugc), the page's HTTP status, whether the page is noindex, whether robots.txt blocks Googlebot, whether the canonical points elsewhere and whether the link is hidden.
Should I enter a domain or a URL?
Enter your domain (e.g. example.com) to accept a link to any page of your site, including subdomains. Enter a full URL with a path (e.g. example.com/pricing) when the link must point to that exact page.
Why does a found link show a warning?
A link only passes full value when it is dofollow, visible and on an indexable page. Nofollow, sponsored and ugc links, noindex pages, pages blocked by robots.txt and pages canonicalized to another URL are flagged because Google may ignore them.
Why does a page show an error?
The page may be down, return a 4xx/5xx status, take longer than 15 seconds, or block our crawler. Try again later — if it keeps failing, Google may have trouble reaching it too.
How is this different from a backlink database?
Backlink databases show links crawled weeks ago. This tool checks the page right now, which is what you need to verify a purchased or negotiated link is still in place.
